MONTREAL – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based Star Produce highlighted sustainable packaging options at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association show April 3-4.
“This year we’re working on reducing plastics in the industry together, so working with our retailers to buy into not using as much plastic and changing that consumer kind of thought process that you need to see the bottom of your pack and everything like that,” said Jessica Wells, marketing coordinator.
The company displayed several alternative packages at its booth to let buyers know that options are available.
Star Produce also featured at the booth a pack of pre-conditioned pears, designed so shoppers can buy the fruit ready to eat instead of waiting for it to ripen.
Also, the company will also have tomato production from its own Mexico greenhouse for the first time this year.
