The Packer’s Ideas in Merchandising, a publication from the late 1960s and early 1970s had some familiar ideas for avocado merchandising, point-of-sale materials, signage and coupons.

But, proving that not every look back is worth a modern revival, the publication also features recipes that would make most modern consumers cringe.

Dubbed “a confection which is both beautiful and unusual,” Avocado Coeur a la Creme combines avocados, pineapple juice, cream cheese, cottage cheese, grapefruit and grenadine in a pale green gelatinous dream, or nightmare, depending on who you ask.
