I first learned about these when I received my entries to judge for the 2012 Produce Marketing Association Impact Packaging Awards. Of course, I’m not allowed to talk about those entries, which meant I didn’t get a chance to try this product until now, even though I was riddled with curiosity.

Someone told me last year they think Brussels sprouts will be the new French green bean, and I’m kind of in agreement. Just from what I’ve experienced, and from my friends’ talk of recipes and Pinterest topics, fresh Brussels sprouts are hot.

Ocean Mist makes this easy because these are trimmed and ready to cook. Microwaveable Brussels sprouts aren’t something new, but I like this bag because they allow you to add your own seasonings prior to cooking, instead of either having plain steamed Brussels sprouts or an unidentifiable puck of stuff in there that may or may not have questionable ingredients.

I like the control, but if you’re looking for a no-brainer plop it in the microwave pack, this isn’t it.

The texture was great, and despite his fidgeting, Ike did eat his fair share.
