Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets LLC opened a new flagship store format in Amarillo this week that revamps the chain's typical store format. "Several store features have never been seen in a United Supermarket location before -- most notably a separate entrance and exit, as well as 'fresh' departments at the front of the store," said the company in a news release.
The new 55,000-square-foot store is a bright and colorful design that uses active visual elements as well as outdoor images that honor the local community and the Texas spirit. "This is our first United location which reflects our new brand strategy," says Monica Schierbaum, senior director of marketing for United in the release. The landmark of the store is a large, iconic tree over the entire produce department.
On the grounds of the store, United also opened a freestanding United Express convenience store in late January.
United currently operates 60 stores under four unique brands: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Albertson's LLC.
