Produce Marketing Association summaries of the proposed produce safety rule for growers and food manufacturers are now available, and the Newark, Del.-based group is also offering a series of Web seminars on each of the proposed regulations in January.

Between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Eastern on Jan. 17, the PMA will host a Web seminar called “10 things you need to know about the produce rule.” From 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., the second seminar on “10 things you need to know about preventive controls” will be offered.

Both will be led by Bob Whitaker, chief science and technology officer for PMA, according to a release from PMA.

Those sessions will be followed by two “Ask the FDA” Web seminars on Jan. 24, according to the PMA release.

On that day, Samir Assar, director of the Produce Safety Staff, FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, will answer questions about the FDA’s proposed produce safety regulation. Jenny Scott, senior advisor to the director of the Office of Food Safety, FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, will address the preventive controls regulation for food facilities, according to the release.
